Drug and alcohol testing is the process of screening a worker's breath, urine or oral fluid (saliva) for the presence of specific drugs. The sample must be taken by an accredited collector, and the type of sample taken is dependent on the employer's testing requirements.
CHG can conduct a drug and alcohol test in our clinic or onsite in an employer's workplace. Onsite screening will provide an instant preliminary positive or negative result, with initial preliminary positive result specimens sent to the laboratory for confirmation. Alternatively, all specimens can be sent directly to the laboratory for testing, with initial results available after 24 hours.
Confirmation results for either method normally take about 48 hours.
An employer may request a drug and alcohol test for various reasons, including:
- pre-employment assessment
- fitness for work assessment
- random testing
- for cause / incident testing
- blanket testing
CHG also conduct drug and alcohol dependency assessments at the request of other parties.
