A specialist physician is a medical practitioner who has completed additional training to specialise in a field of expertise. Common specialist physicians involved in the return to work of injured workers include surgeons, occupational physicians, pain physicians, and rehabilitation physicians. A specialist physican is usually engaged by a case manager, following request by a injured worker's treating service providers or return to work service providers.
